What is Textured Matte Plastic?

Rigid exterior plastic components (such as side moldings, mirror covers, wiper cowls, and rear diffusers) are injection-molded from raw, unpainted polymers—primarily Polypropylene (PP) or Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS). These materials feature a molded-in micro-texture that scatters light to create a matte look. Because they have no protective clear coat shell, they are directly exposed to photo-degradation. Solar UV rays split the delicate polymer bonds, causing the plastic to leach its internal stabilizing oils. This structural breakdown leaves behind a dry, faded, oxidized white chalky crust that destroys the vehicle's contrast.

Professional Cleaning Method

  • Step 1 – Agitation Prep: Scrub embedded dirt out of the textured plastic grain using Quick Wash (Blue) and a soft nylon brush.
  • Step 2 – Deep Dry: Dry the textured surface completely to ensure optimal chemical adhesion.
  • Step 3 – Polymer Restorer: Wipe your Rubber Dressing over the plastic with an applicator pad to penetrate the open pores, restoring a rich satin black finish.
  • Step 4 – Dry Buff: Buff flat with a fresh microfiber towel to eliminate any greasy hotspots or high spots.

Common Vulnerabilities

  • Rapid UV Oxidation: Severe fading that turns deep black trim into a weathered, chalky white grey.
  • Chemical Bleaching: Permanent white clouding caused by high-pH automated car wash soaps.
  • Compound/Wax Staining: Careless traditional waxing or compounding that leaves bright white, stubborn residue trapped inside the plastic's texture grain.
