Oxidation is a form of chemical weathering that occurs when the top layer of paint or clear coat is stripped of its essential oils and resins by oxygen and UV heat. This results in a "chalky" white residue and a complete loss of depth and reflection. Once the surface becomes porous through oxidation, it traps dirt and moisture, accelerating the journey toward total clear coat failure. If the paint still has "color" underneath the chalk, it can typically be salvaged through chemical deep-cleaning and mechanical abrasion.
