What is Polycarbonate Headlights?
Modern automotive headlight lenses are manufactured from molded Polycarbonate—a highly durable, impact-resistant thermoplastic polymer. To protect the raw plastic from rapid atmospheric degradation, factory lenses are treated with a thin, hard-cured acrylic UV-blocking top coat. Over time, heat cycles, road debris, and intense solar radiation destroy this factory layer, causing the underlying polycarbonate to oxidize, turn a chalky yellow, and lose structural optical clarity.
Professional Cleaning Method
Cleaning Method:
Step 1 – Complete Lens Prep: Clean all surface grit using Quick Wash (Blue) and thoroughly mask off surrounding paint with automotive tape.
Step 2 – Clarification Correction: Apply Mirror Polish to a soft micro-fiber applicator pad or low-speed polishing tool to chemically break down and mechanically lift away the hazy yellow oxidation layer.
Step 3 – Residue Wipe: Wipe the lens completely clean with a fresh microfiber towel to reveal the optically clear plastic beneath.
Step 4 – Long-Term UV Lock: Apply a generous layer of Top Coat Graphene Detailer or Protector Hybrid Ceramic Sealant to form a slick, high-density polymer shield that acts as a sacrificial layer against future solar yellowing.
Common Vulnerabilities
