What is Hard Water Spotting & Type II Mineral Etching?

Hard water spots are classified into two categories. Type I are surface-level mineral deposits. Type II Water Spots, however, are sub-surface etchings. When "hard" water (rich in calcium and magnesium) dries on a hot panel, the water evaporates, leaving concentrated minerals behind. If exposed to sunlight, these minerals become alkaline-active and chemically "eat" into the clear coat or glass. This creates a permanent, concave crater that cannot be washed away with soap; it requires mechanical leveling of the substrate to restore optical clarity.

What Causes This Issue?

Evaporative Mineral Concentration: Calcium and magnesium solids left behind after hard water dries.

* Heat Activation: Direct sunlight "baking" the minerals into the porous clear coat or carbon fiber resin.

* Acid Rain/Sprinklers: High mineral content in municipal water or environmental precipitation.

How to Prevent Future Damage

Apply ImportWorx Protector to create a hydrophobic shield that rejects mineral bonding.

* Use Graphene Ceramic Detailer after every wash to boost the sacrificial layer and improve water sheeting.

* Never wash your vehicle in direct sunlight; ensure the surface is cool to the touch.

TECHNICAL PROTOCOL //

1. Shake well to activate ceramic resins.

2. Apply 4-5 drops to a foam applicator pad.

3. Work into a clean, cool panel in overlapping circular motions.

4. Allow 2-3 minutes to haze/bond (do not let dry completely).

5. Buff to a high-voltage shine with a clean microfiber towel.
