Gasoline is a refined hydrocarbon solvent designed to break down organic matter. When spilled on an automotive surface, it immediately begins to dissolve waxes, sealants, and eventually the resins within the clear coat or vinyl film. This "solvent attack" leads to hydrocarbon leaching, where the paint's protective oils are replaced by fuel oils, resulting in a permanent yellow or brown stain. Because the damage is chemical, it cannot be washed away with soap. Restoration requires a two-step process: chemical neutralization of the fuel oils followed by mechanical polishing to remove the stained layers of the substrate.
