Bird droppings are a dual-threat contaminant containing highly concentrated uric acid and abrasive biological solids. The damage occurs through a process called thermal shock. As the vehicle's metal panels heat up in the sun, the paint expands and softens around the dropping. Simultaneously, the dropping dries and hardens, anchoring to the surface. When the panel cools, the paint contracts, but the hardened dropping resists this movement, physically pulling and "wrinkling" the clear coat. This creates a permanent etched pattern that cannot be washed away; it requires chemical neutralization and often mechanical leveling to repair.
